Tis the season for door decorating

As the weather changes from spring to fall and the leaves begin to fall off the trees, one activity is always known for spreading a little holiday cheer—door decorating. Students often begin decorating their doors with many different ideas and creative uniqueness to create distinction between them all. Holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas have many seasonal participants in door decorating activities.

This is especially true in halls such as Hirschy Annex. The second floor RA Sarah Lemmons explained the quality participation she and others noticed among the residents on her floor.

“We saw a few freshman decorating their doors, and we begin to notice other freshman and upperclassman attempting to do the same” said Lemmons. “We thought it would make for afriendly door decorating competition since Christmas is the next big holiday.”

Among the students living in Hirschy Annex, triple-style sophomore roommates Jules Frazier, Abigail Newkirk and Taylor Steinke went all out in participating in the door decoration.

“We really committed to decorating our door this year,” said sophomore Jules Frazier. “The entire process took a day in a half to complete, but it was a lot of fun doing it with my roommates.”

The women’s door resembles Santa and his reindeer coming down from the North Pole to give out “presents” to everyone on second floor Hirschy Annex.

“We liked the idea of Santa delivering presents to our entire floor,” said sophomore Abby Newkirk. “We thought it resembled community, so when people from our floor come knock on the door we can hand out mini gift bags.”

I think it’s a great idea to decorate your door for the holidays,” said Steinke. “It’s not an activity you only have to do with just your roommates, you can get lots of good opinions and great ideas from a bunch of different people.”
