Leslie Beasley
Leslie Beasley is a special education major from Columbus, Ohio. She involved with multicultural student affairs and residence life. She also works as a Kit Guide for new student orientations and as a student assistant in the Learning Resource Center. Previously, she served as a student ambassador.
A love for Bluffton, as well as the opportunity for her to be part of building a community, is what attracted Beasley to the HD position.
“I want to be an HD because I love being involved on campus,” Beasley said. “As a resident, I understand how important campus housing is to a students college experience.
Many people often refer to it as a ‘dorm’ but it is really a home. We eat, sleep, work, build relationships, and create everlasting memories in the resident halls. I want to make my hall one that builds on the sense of community and personal growth.”
Beasley said she wants to work to ensure a community atmosphere next year in her hall.
“My goals for Bluffton as a hall director are to provide and maintain a safe place for my residents to find comfort, peace and a place to call home,” Beasley said. “I want create an environment within my hall where my residents feel that they have the ability to express themselves in a respectful environment that encourages diversity and understanding. I want to promote Bluffton’s values in a wide range of areas: academic, cultural, interpersonal, emotionally and morally.”
Beasley is already looking ahead to next year and thinking of new ways to make a positive impact on campus.
“One thing that I would like to implement is doing more activities that are relevant to special holidays and months, such as Black History Month,” Beasley said. “I believe it is important for us to not only recognize the most celebrated holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween, but that we must also recognize the other major holidays that are important in student’s lives.”
Nicholas Hoffman
Junior Nicholas Hoffman is an accounting and business administration major from Lima, Ohio. He has been an RA for two years and a member of the men’s soccer team for the past three years. He also plans to be involved in the new esports club next school year.
For Hoffman, relationship development is a big part of what made the job of HD appealing to him.
“I really want to teach a staff how to be good RAs and help them grow as people,” Hoffman said. “I want to develop their skills professionally, and want to work the administration to help me grow as a person and professionally develop as well.”
Although he anticipates a big transition from an RA to an HD position, Hoffman is ready for the challenge.
“I want to challenge myself with the responsibility of managing the RAs and having that kind of role,” Hoffman said. “I’ll be more responsible. Instead of just being an RA, I’m the person that the RAs will turn to when they need help.”
Overall, Hoffman is looking forward to “seeing who will be on my staff and how we develop as a team” and wants “to make events that people will want to go to and do something different that hasn’t been done before.”
Courtney Jasinski
Courtney Jasinski, a junior business administration and marketing major, is from Englewood, Ohio. She has played softball for three years and been part of FCA for two years.
Jasinski said her goal as an HD is “for things in my building to run as smoothly as possible for students.”
Jasinski said she believes increased responsibility will be the biggest change from her current position to the hall director position.
“I think the hardest part about the transition will be being in charge of a building rather than just a floor,” Jasinski said.
Jasinski said she’s excited about what next year will bring.
“I think it will be a great opportunity,” Jasinski said. “[I’m most looking forward to] meeting new people and having my own bathroom.”
