As the cold, unpredictable winter season comes to a close, the sweet oasis of spring approaches. Flowers start to pop up, trees begin to bear their leaves and people come out of hibernation to bask in the essence of Bluffton’s beauty.
There are many different opportunities that Bluffton provides for enjoying this warm weather.
Senior resident adviser Wyatt Jarell and freshman Brianna Hartle are both warm weather connoisseurs.
“I like warm weather because I’m outside playing basketball, walking around campus or out at the nature preserve,” said Jarrell. “There’s also the track around the football field, the weight room, the library and library field.”
“I go outside all the time,” said Hartle. “I like the trails that are throughout the woods. I also run, walk around with friends, and if I’m at home, I will go out and play with the animals”.
A few other opportunities that warmer weather brings are: Using the fire pit, playing tennis, kicking the soccer ball around, photo shoots, and/or skateboarding.
Even if you don’t like warm weather, there are still great ways to enjoy the beauty of Bluffton without having to stay outside.
“The Sommer Center is the best place because there’s the weight room and the track inside around the basketball court” said Jarrell. “My favorite place on campus would be the weight room because I like to exercise regularly. It’s nice to go to when it’s warm out because the sun is out and they open the blinds. Working out with air conditioning but also getting to see Bluffton’s campus through the windows is very awesome. Another great place to go is the library because it is has a great amount of sunlight, as well.”
However, if you do like the warm weather, there are many other opportunities to enjoy being outside.
“Tennis-ball baseball” said Jarrell. “We play on the Neufeld Lawn. It’s basically baseball but with a tennis ball. Tennis-ball golf. Usually Bluffton puts steaks out around campus that have hole numbers on them, and it’s just golf but with a tennis ball. Frisbee Golf, Ultimate Frisbee (which is on Library Field), Spikeball tournaments and/or sand volleyball. Tennis ball golf is one of my favorites though because I like golf, and I think it’s a very relaxing sport.”
Bluffton’s wide range of activities helps everyone from students, faculty and staff to get outside and enjoy the amazing weather.
Even if you don’t like being physically active or don’t want to be cooped up indoors, just simply going outside and appreciating the weather is still a refreshing experience.
“I enjoy being outside because it gives me something other to do than being inside watching TV and being on my phone” said Hartle.
With the forecast becoming increasingly warmer, more people will want to go outside. This also gives everyone the opportunity to make new friends and making new friends is always great!
Whether if you’re just hanging around the fire pit, enjoying the sunlight in various buildings around campus, or trying out tennis ball baseball for your first time, the warmer weather can bring out the best in all of us.
