“There is nothing to do in Bluffton,” may not be a common saying among students this fall. Student Life, Marbeck Center Board and other groups have planned nightly activities for students as part of the 60 Events in Six Weeks initiative.

Assistant Director of the University Event Complex Brent Schroeder said the impetus for 60 Events in Six Weeks was a synthesis of several ideas from Student Life.

“We’re trying to provide opportunities for students to connect with other students and develop a strong support system,” Schroeder said.

The initiative also features weekly programs, such as Thursday Night Spotlight and Marbeck After Dark. Peer Awareness Leaders recently teamed up with Fault Lines to host a stress relief dance night. Kayla Nelson, president of student group Fault Lines, said these events are “a good way to see other groups, a good way to meet people and a good way to destress.”

Other events that have already been held as part of 60 Events in Six Weeks include the Bluffton Olympics, the Red Cross blood drive, build your own aquarium and the Ropp Concert sponsored by Campus Ministries featuring Jonathan Reuel and Jason Ropp.

“[We hope this initiative will] present the best possible experience for students, especially first-year students,” said Schroeder. “I encourage students who feel a little bit uneasy about putting themselves out there to try to keep an eye on these sorts of events… and see what kinds of activities appeal to them and just go out and do it.”

Upcoming events include Build a Beaver, Let’s Make a Deal and glow in the dark capture the flag. For more information on upcoming events, students can look for flyers posted around campus or check Marbeck Center Board’s Facebook page.
