I’m cold. You’re cold.
I think just about everyone is cold.
Around the Horn? More like walk “Around” giant piles of slippery ice. (Back with the puns already?)
Yes. Always the puns.
What’s going on around campus you may ask? Let me fill you in with the first edition of the new year.
Here is your first 2019 edition of Around the Horn!
Snow love
I just wanted to share a few pictures of the wildly talented and very handsome sophomore pre-medicine and biology major, Caleb Nesbit, enjoying the snow!
Sports
Make sure you’re supporting all of our winter sports teams!
This includes: Men’s and Women’s basketball and indoor track.
Similarly, spring sports are starting up, so make sure to also support baseball, softball and track and field!
Super Bowl party
There are a couple different Super Bowl parties going on around campus.
Marbeck will be hosting one at 6 p.m. in Bob’s Place, which will include free food and prizes.
Meanwhile, I also know Hirschy is holding a Super Bowl party with food and Powerade pong.
No matter what party you go to, I just want to agree on two things.
- Please be safe in your endeavors!
- Please for crying out loud, do not let the Patriots win another Super Bowl!
CareerFest
On Friday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., there will be a job fair in Cardinal Hall at the Ohio Expo Center in Columbus.
Held by the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC), this job fair will help students looking to find internships and jobs.
If you are interested in attending this event, you can email Cody Sanderson at sandersonc@bluffton.edu
Kit Guide
Applications to be a Kit Guide this summer are due Feb. 8.
Students who work as a Kit Guide have the opportunity to help new students and families at registration and orientation programs.
If you would like to become a Kit Guide, you can pick up an application at the Marbeck Information Desk or by emailing orientation@bluffton.edu
That other Purple Team
Don’t even think about coming to the basketball game next Wednesday, Feb. 6, if you’re going to support the “other purple team.”
When you show up to support Bluffton, make sure you come with lots of spirit and a few sassy remarks for the opposing team.
Momma taught me to always be nice…BUT NOT TO THE OTHER PURPLE TEAM!
Advice of the month
Our advice of the month comes from junior English major Obi Martin.
“Drop the controller,” said Martin. “You have four years at an institution created for passing on the greatest thoughts of Western Civilization. Figure out who you are, what the world is like, and what positive impact you can have on it. You’re not going to learn any of that from a media feedback loop between you and a gaming console.”
Well said!
Future of Around the Horn
Just a quick reminder: I have been doing Around the Horn since the previous spring semester, starting with a weekly edition, then moving to a bi-weekly edition in the fall semester.
Around the Horn is now moving to a monthly format. Not because I love ATH any less (much love for my baby), however, I have recently picked up other responsibilities in The Witmarsum family!
I have moved Around the Horn to once a month because I want to give you the best content possible, and I want to devote the most amount of time I can give to each of my responsibilities.
Each month, I will also release a music report. I serve as 96.1 The Wit’s music director, and it’s my job to introduce some awesome tunes to you!
Finally, every Sunday at 1 p.m., my best friend and homie g, Trent Mast, and I will go live on the radio, playing music and talking about some fun life stuff.
“Wow, how much stuff does this guy do?”
Thank you for asking, my highly attentive friend. And thank you for sticking with me!
See you Around the Horn next month! (Or around the snow…or ice…or whatever weird weather Ohio decides next).
