As the summer comes to a close, it is the start of another year at Bluffton University, and the start of a new year for The Witmarsum.
Each year I see the organization grow, blossom and thrive, and yet there is always room to grow and do better. This year The Wit will continue to build its legacy on the foundation of the previous years. My goal is for The Wit to have a presence among the students, for more of them to become interested and dedicated subscribers.
Right now, we live in an era where print news is dying because seemingly unlimited information is now available to us on the phones we keep in our pockets. With so much information being thrown in our faces, it becomes harder to distinguish between what is true and what is completely made up.
As reporters, we should take pride in our work and pursue and share truth to the best of our ability. We need to be accurate with the information we provide to our readers. We check and double-check information and sources before publishing our articles as an act of service to our community.
If we get something wrong, I want to know so we can fix it.
As a student-driven media organization, we want to continue bringing Bluffton students, faculty and staff together and create a place where our community can grow together.
I want to bridge the gap and build a community between the students and The Wit. I want The Wit to be respected not only by faculty and staff but by our fellow students as well. I want students to be excited about The Wit as much as those of us who work for it are.
I dearly love The Witmarsum and want to continue to improve upon the content we provide to you, our audience. University is a time for students to grow both as a person and academically, and I believe The Wit can provide both for the members of the team and the broader community.
I am looking forward to what The Wit will provide this year to our readers, listeners and viewers, and I hope you are, too.
With much gratitude,
Nicole Centofanti
