Friday night Magic

By Lucas Augustine

Goblins, imps and wizards come to life every Friday in Ropp pit, and it has nothing to do with Halloween. It is Magic: The Gathering.

Magic: The Gathering is a deck building game where people compete with each other by building the best deck that works with their play style and playing together. Bluffton’s gaming club hosts Friday night Magic every Friday in the Ropp pit. Magic: The Gathering can be played in many different styles, whether it is one-on-one or in a group of players.

Victoria Sinift, an avid Magic player and a member of the Bluffton University Gaming Club said, “I love Magic because it’s a competitive game with tons of strategy. There are so many different play styles and you can match your deck building to how you play. I love hanging out with the guys and challenging my skills against theirs.”

For those interested in starting their own deck or picking up Magic as a hobby, Post Board Gaming in Findlay sells the game. At the shop, you can get three booster packs for $10, buying individual cards or buying a set for up to $40. Students regularly plan trips to Post Board Gaming so Finding a ride is not an issue.

Cody Stuckey, a leader in the Gaming Club said , “I started in high school because my friend told me about it, and it sounded like Yugioh, another trading card game, so I was intrigued by it. I like playing it because I’ve always liked trading card games and
it’s a great way to pass the time and the Friday night Magic events are a fun time to connect with friends and other people who play the game.”
