Homecoming week to bring fun, football and ‘swag’

Homecoming week is finally here! Each year, the homecoming week lineup boasts some of Bluffton’s most anticipated events for students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Every night this week, there will be an event, all leading up to the homecoming football game at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, again Manchester University.

Tuesday night, The Witmarsum kicked off the week by hosting Let’s Make a Deal in Bob’s Place. Many students went home with prizes ranging from a laptop to festive socks.

Wednesday night at 9:30 p.m. in Bob’s Place some of Bluffton’s most beloved faculty and staff will take the stage for the annual Faculty Follies performance. In the past, faculty and staff have sung original parody songs, recited pop music as poetry, performed improv skits and played silly games.

On Thursday at 9:30 p.m., there will be a Bubble Soccer tournament in Founders Gym. For this event, students can sign up as a team or be placed on a team of five for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Luke’s. Snacks will be provided by the Bluffton University Nutrition Association (BUNA).

Friday night at 9 p.m. is Fall Fest in Bob’s Place, sponsored by Marbeck Center Board. There will be fall activities and snacks, including apple cider.

On Saturday, the football game will begin at 1:30 p.m. The crowning ceremony for homecoming court will take place during halftime of the game. The homecoming court this year consists of sophomores Jihad Shockley and Kayla McSwords, juniors Ethan Zaerr and Emma Cobb and seniors Angel Huerta, Jena O’Brien, Jeff Arnett and Thomas Wagler.

The homecoming dance will be at 9 p.m.  Saturday in Founders Gym. This year’s theme is Glow Dance, and the attire is casual.

At each event throughout the week, the homecoming committee will give away free “swag.” The items include a headband, a fanny pack, a water bottle and a long-sleeve purple homecoming t-shirt. All of the swag items play into this year’s glow theme and can be worn at the dance Saturday night.
