Professors who made an impact

In a student’s time at Bluffton, they interact with multiple professors, some of whom leave a lasting impact on the student. Below is a list of professors who individual students look up to most, as well as their favorite class taught by that professor.

Courtney Davis, senior psychology major
Professor: “Deanna Barthlow-Potkanowicz because she’s very encouraging in your future plans. She’s straight to the point, she’ll tell you how it is and she really works with students to understand the material, not just teach the material.”
Favorite class: “My favorite class with her is special topics because she really explained the different careers you can take with this major.”

D.J. Keesey, senior exercise science and strength and conditioning major
Professor: “Amanda Beard because she is a certified strength and conditioning coach, and I feel like if she can do that and teach, there’s a lot she can do.”
Favorite class: “I got the most out of biomechanics. It taught me a lot that I’ll be able to use during the rest of my career.”

Joe Eisele, junior marketing, accounting and business administration major with a finance concentration
Professor: “Jason Swartzlander because he’s a small business owner and that’s something I’d like to accomplish one day.”
Favorite class: “The intermediate accounting classes 1 and 2 because we got some real world experience.”

Darian Greeley, junior criminal justice major
Professor: “Michael Barrett and Perry Bush. I love Michael Barrett’s stories from being an officer. I love Perry Bush’s energy, and all of the history he knows and all the books he’s written is really cool to me.”
Favorite class: “I don’t have a favorite class, if they’re teaching I like the class.”

Kayla McSwords, junior nutrition and dietetics major
Professor: “I look up to Jeanna Haggard. She’s got this intimidating swagger because she knows so much. I just want to know as much as she knows and have the confidence that she has.”
Favorite class: “I like food service management because it’s the Harvest Dinner class.”

John Jones, senior psychology major
Professor: “Deanna Barthlow-Potkanowicz because she’s very caring and understanding and works with her students to the best of their abilities to be able to accomplish what they want.”
Favorite class: “Developmental psychology because it was very interesting content to learn from her.”

Alexis Cash, senior speech-language pathology and audiology major
Professors: “Jackie Wyse-Rhodes and Alex Sider. I look up to them because they’re very supportive people and they’re very personable. They care about me a lot and they have really good advice and they want me to succeed.”
Favorite class: “I took Christian ethics with Alex Sider. It made me really think about morality and ethics and how that relates to the Bible. I was able to apply it to my life and I still think about that class a lot. I’ve loved all of the classes I’ve had with Jackie.”

Aaron Rich, junior business and sport management major
Professor: “Marathana Prothro because she was my Becoming a Scholar professor my freshman year. She helped me prepare myself for college and showed us how to be a good college student in and out of the classroom.”
Favorite class: “Becoming a Scholar because of how much it helped me later on.”
