Students recommend Valentine’s Day movies

Friday is Valentine’s Day, and with another holiday comes another list of student movie recommendations. While The Witmarsum published a list of romantic comedy recommendations for Valentine’s Day 2019, this year the question was less limited: What is your favorite movie to watch during Valentine’s Day, and why?

Sarah Poiry, a freshman graphic design major, said “27 Dresses was her favorite film for Valentine’s Day.

“It’s a movie I grew up watching with my mom, and it’s just a really good movie,” Poiry said.

Ally Heldman, a freshman convergent media major, cited “The Kissing Booth as her recommendation.

“I just like how there’s a lot of romance in there,” said Heldman.

Junior child development major Amryn Dover said “Love Don’t Cost A Thingis her favorite romance movie.

“It’s about somebody basically paying somebody to be their Valentine,” said Dover.

Senior exercise science major Taylor Best said “Love & Basketball” was her preferred film for the holiday.

“The actress [Sanaa Lathan] just played the role so well, I had to keep watching it,” said Best.

Lou Westcott, a freshman convergent media major, said that “Me Before You was a great film to watch.

“It’s a very touching movie about the impact that meeting somebody, like your soulmate, has on you, and how you can move on because you’ve met them and they’ve had that effect on you,” said Westcott.

Sophomore convergent media major Elijah NcNeal said his favorite Valentine’s movie was “13 Going on 30.”

“It teaches the audience not to judge a book by its cover,” said McNeal.

Whether you have a date or are celebrating alone, these films might be worth watching. It’s a better way to spend a couple of hours than crying into your pillow, at least.
