Winter WonderDam, an event hosted by Marbeck Center Board, will be from 4 p.m. until the end of the Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2 in Founders Gym.

This winter-themed event will have many activities, starting with ice skating with a fake ice surface and Build-a-Beaver for the first 170 people to arrive at the door where they can stuff their own beaver and put a special t-shirt on it. There will also be a hot chocolate bar, games and a photo booth.

At around 6 p.m., a Super Bowl party will begin with the game projected onto the wall. Chicken tenders, meatballs, vegetable and cheese trays, and other foods and drinks will be provided for the party.

Kevin White, assistant director of University Event Complex, said the idea for the event started from needing another signature event during winter months. He said he had been thinking about doing an event with ice skating for a while, so the idea continued to grow from there, taking on ideas inspired by the wintery theme.

“I hope that it’s big enough this year that we can build on it from there,” said White. “Kind of like the lip-sync battles were last year, we planned it but we didn’t know that it was going to go that successfully, so we just kind of add to [the lip-sync battles] each year.”

When asked about the Build-a-Beaver, Kayla McSwords, a Marbeck information desk manager who helped plan and name the event, was enthusiastic about the chance to build another beaver.

The last time we did it was my freshman year. It was something that we used to do at Experience Bluffton, an event that was held for accepted students to come and experience Bluffton and we did Build-a-Beaver,” said McSwords. “It’s something that people have been asking for—for it to return. People always enjoy Build-a-Beaver, getting to dress up their own beaver and it’s a little buddy to take with you after you graduate and everything. I still have mine from a while ago, and I can’t wait to have a twin for my beaver.”
