Around the Horn: Beat DC week

Written by Colten McCabe

Some very spooky seasons have passed and we are now back to the regularly bi-weekly scheduling of Around the Horn.

Just like a pile of leaves, let’s jump right into it!

Leaves

The yellow-gold, lime, brown and red leaves that cover the walkways on campus make for wonderful pictures and awe-inspiring beauty.

Make sure to grab a handful of leaves before the cold deteriorates nature’s magnificence.

Cold

Speaking of cold, it is getting colder. (No duh Colten, we know it’s getting colder out.)

WEAR A JACKET! You do not want to end up sick!

Sickness

I am sick. I have a common cold, and I would like to blame the flurry of viruses that have attacked my sinuses and made me feel worse than when you wake up for a morning class一only to realize it has been cancelled.

Did I forget to wear my jacket? Possibly.

Am I upset that I’m sick? 100 percent.

Should you learn from my mistake and wear a jacket? ALWAYS WEAR A JACKET!

Go see the nurse. If you can’t see the nurse, make sure you drink lots of water and get some cough drops. Menthol is very helpful for opening up your sinuses and serving as a decongestant, while water helps to keep you hydrated. (“Dr. McCabe” helping to keep you safe while enduring the cold.)

Dam Jam

Tonight at 10 p.m., Bluffton University shows its support for winter sports by hosting Dam Jam.

“What is Dam Jam?” you may ask.

Well my fellow horn patrons, Dam Jam is an event held in Sommer Center where there are free t-shirts to the first 100 people who arrive, games and other prizes including gift cards and assorted pieces of technology/electronics.

The doors will open at 9:30 p.m., and the main event starts at 10 p.m.

Make sure to show up and show out!

The Bluffton University Beavers Football Team takes on the Defiance College Yellow Jackets, otherwise known as…OUR RIVALS!

Saturday’s day game versus Defiance is a white out, so show up wearing all white.

Shout out to the men from the horn: Bring home the hammer baby!

Midterm elections

This isn’t really an announcement as much as it is a general thought.

It is okay to disagree with someone else’s opinions on candidates or even voting. It is your right to have free speech and free thought.

Even if you don’t agree with someone else’s opinions or ways of thinking, you can still respect their right to their way of thinking.

Twitter subtweeting and name bashing are not going to help anyone, and they especially do not look well to both other people and to future employers.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t have these conversations. I’m just saying to be careful and respectful of other people’s opinions.

Advice of the week

Take care of yourself. Eat right, drink more water, get more sleep.

Seasons change; the world gets colder and with that, your body reacts differently.

You become more tired and with the semester coming to a close within the next month, final projects and maybe even some final exam study guides are being passed your way.

It can be easy to be caught up in the mix of school, but by taking care of your body, you should be able to get away from illness and stress!

Hoping your week is full of healthy decisions, a handful of leaves, and school pride when we beat DC!
