Around the Horn: Spring break edition

Written by Colten McCabe

I have the craziest story for you!

On Sunday, the wind was blowing insanely fast. It knocked a branch out of a tree and sent it hurtling towards my legs. When I jumped to avoid the branch, the wind picked me up and carried me all the way to Texas! While there, I found J. Denny Beaver just chillin’ at a Starbucks. I guess apparently the wind had carried him there, too! I told him I had to get back to write Around the Horn and with one tail slap, he beamed me all the way back to Bluffton!

Oh man, do I love those crazy beavers!

Hi, this is Around the Horn! It’s a little goofy and light-hearted. Sometimes there’s horrible puns and funny ramblings. Other times, there’s some serious news—I like to bring you the essentials.

Hopefully you “wind” up liking this edition! (Oh…there he goes with the puns again…not even into the real news and he’s already got puns).

“Wind” will I stop? These wind puns are a breeze to make! (…Alright…I give him that one…he’s on a roll).

Let’s jump into some news!

Midterms

Good luck to everyone on their midterms!

Whether if you’re taking them or grading them, I wish the best of luck!

Make sure to study, get some good sleep and eat lots of food.

Finish out the week strong!

You’ll do great!

Spring Break

Wherever you travel to, please be safe and don’t party too hard!

Or jump…because the wind will take you away.

Student Senate

Who are the candidates, and why should you care?

Amryn Dover, a sophomore childhood development major, is the only candidate running for the Student Senate president position!

Why does Student Senate matter?

They help fund student clubs and organizations, such as the new and upcoming Bluffton e-sports club!

Student Senate also hosts events, such as “Bluffton-ish” and “Discover the Rainbow.”

Make sure to show student senate support as they are very important to our campus!

Advice of the Month

This advice is from me.

Stand in the wind. Let it hurl you to unknown places and new destinations.

Life is what you make it, NOT “life is what makes you.”

So when the wind takes you to Texas or to the Hanif Abdurraqib reading or to intramural volleyball or to the email account to submit your creative writing work, embrace the wind.

No matter how much bad weather comes along, you can still control who you are during these moments.

Stand in the wind. Let the rain soak your clothes. Let the snow freeze your skin. Let the cold burn your lungs.

Take a moment to enjoy what’s around you now. Even if you hate what’s around you today, it just means when the weather you want comes around tomorrow, you can enjoy it even more!
