Living Around the Horn

The true first edition of Around the Horn for the 2018 fall semester is here!

Without further ado, let’s jump right into it!

Admissions

Admissions has moved from Riley Court to the Houshower House and the Mara Alva House. They are located on the corner of College Avenue and Spring Street. According to the Bluffton University website, the Mara Alva House used to hold students studying food and nutrition majors in what was called the Management Residency Program until it was renovated in 2016 to house offices for advancement. The location of the Houshower and Mara Alva Houses will provide more parking and a more memorable experience for visiting students.

Freshëns

As reported by Nathan Heinze, Freshëns is set to debut in the middle of September. Fantastic idea for the part of my brain that is begging me to eat healthier, and a major downfall for the part of my brain that thinks I can sustain a healthy lifestyle living off of chicken tenders. Either way, a definite step in the right direction to having even more healthier options here at Bluffton.

Power strikes

Electricity is not wanting to work within certain residence halls. I myself, do not have power, but it is not something to fear about. One possible reason why these power outages are happening is because of the heat.

That’s right, once again, we’re going to blame the heat.

Students are running fans, air conditioners, and video game systems playing Madden 19 into all hours of the night. Let’s hope once the sun decides to stop scoldering us power outages will become less frequent.

New music

Our campus radio station, 96.1 The Wit, is constantly adding new music.

Be sure to catch artists like Imagine Dragons, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, and Weezer!

And lastly, your Advice of the week, courtesy of senior Caitlin Haab.

“Actually take in the campus and pay attention” said Haab. “Don’t just stay in your room all

the time, like actually get out and go do things and get involved. I know my freshman year I was really involved in a lot of things and I really enjoyed my freshman year, because I did all of those things.”

So go to Freshëns with your homies, go check out the new admissions building, go to forums, blame the heat for all your problems and listen to the new music on 96.1 The Wit.

My personal advice to you these first few weeks of classes is to be the life on campus.

Introduce yourself to your neighbors, talk to the cooks in the Commons and ask the student worker at the Marbeck desk to help you open your mailbox after trying to open it a million times.

If you find yourself not being where you want to be, then move yourself where you want to go.

Once again, if you have ideas, poems, advice, pictures, jokes and puns, you are able to send them to my email at mcccza@bluffton.edu.

Hoping you get involved on campus within the next few weeks and that your classes are enjoyable and thought-provoking!

Sounding off on the horn,

Colten McCabe
