Students finding ways to stay busy in midst of pandemic

Weeks into the shutdown for COVID-19 and you may be running out of things to do. People are coming up with creative ideas to pass the time and get through the day like the internet challenge “The handstand t-shirt challenge” where people would perform a handstand and then try to put on a t-shirt.

So what are Bluffton students doing while under stay-at-home orders?

Emma Cobb, a senior majoring in music and dietetics double major, said she has been spending her time in the kitchen.

“I’ve been baking,” said Cobb. “So far I’ve made four pies, a cheesecake and two batches of cookies. I’ve also been trying to learn Debussy’s Clair de Lune on piano.”

While some people practicing social distancing inside their home, Joshua Stahl, a senior criminal justice major, is enjoying the nice weather and spending his time outside, practicing social distancing in the middle of a lake.

“When it’s nice out I like to go out and fish,” said Stahl. “I also am working during this time, too.”

Stahl delivers pizza for East of Chicago pizza, but he says he is taking precautions to be safe.

“I feel safe; I am wearing gloves and a mask when taking deliveries and taking the necessary precautions to stay safe,” said Stahl.

Jules Frazier, junior psychology and social work major, said she has been learning some new activities and tricks.

“I’ve been spending a lot of time with my family,” said Frazier. “My dad taught me how to play euchre, and my sister is teaching me how to do backflips and other tricks on our trampoline. I’ve also been going on runs and walks with my mom and sister.”
