The Wit staff’s recommended packing playlist

Written by Olivia Westcott

As students are finishing finals and packing up dorm rooms, the Witmarsum staff shared some songs students could listen to while they move out.

Grant Ingham: Controlla by Drake.

Just a relaxing and mellow vibe. I like Drake’s slower R&B songs.

Claire Myree: Hold Me While You Wait by Lewis Capaldi.

This is the perfect song to sing aloud to as you complete the laborious task of packing up and moving out, in my case, for the last time.

Marathana Prothro: Float On by Modest Mouse and Over the Hills & Far Away by Led Zeppelin

Float On has been on my playlist since I first heard it in college. I find it to always be a helpful reminder that life keeps moving and that change is inevitable. Over the Hills is my one attempt this year to maybe introduce at least one student who’s never heard of Led Zeppelin to something truly remarkable. This is my go-to road-trippin’ song and you can’t help but jam out when it finally hits its stride.

Kai Smith: Circulate by Young Jeezy and Sleazy Bed Track by The Bluestones.

Circulate is a pretty explicit song but it gets me goin’ and Jeezy references D. C. and Go-Go and it’s got Go-Go beats in it, which is dope. Sleazy Bed Track is a chill song that helps me refocus and remain in the moment. Packing is a time of change and I’m a nostalgic guy.

Patrick Spillman: Hall of Fame by The Script featuring will.i.am

This song has been my go to song for a long time now because I am ready to start a new chapter in my life. This song seems to always say the right things when I worry about the future.

Payton Stephens: I’ll Always Remember You by Hannah Montanna and I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas.

I recommend I’ll Always Remember You because the song itself is nostalgic and for many seniors, this song could hit home as the undergraduate/college chapter of their lives is ending. I chose I Gotta Feeling because it is upbeat and can help keep people motivated to continue packing.

Olivia Tennefoss: Shotgun by George Ezra and Glorious by Macklemore featuring Skylar Grey.

These two songs are upbeat and have some themes of moving and traveling. As graduation nears, I am constantly reminded that it’s time to move and let change happen; what a daunting thought.

Olivia ‘Lou’ Westcott: The Days by Avicii

This song always makes me feel good and nostalgic at the same time as I continue to grow and find myself in new opportunities. I have a lot of great opportunities coming up and have had a lot of fun the past two years and am excited for my junior year as this semester comes to a close.

Dave Woodward: Hit the Road Jack by Ray Charles and Leaving So Soon? By Keane

Two songs appropriate specifically for packing.
